Automated email marketing for local businesses
Some local businesses have permission-based customer email data they are not using consistently. An approved program can test welcome, offer, and reactivation messages while measuring delivery, unsubscribes, complaints, and attributable actions.
ClickMingo can draft campaigns, configure approved sequences, authenticate the sending domain, and monitor deliverability signals. Inbox placement is never guaranteed. The agreement defines eligible client data, vendor access, suppression, exports, and offboarding.
Email is one of the five engines in our system, alongside your website, CRM, SEO, and automated text messaging. It works best when they run together, but this page covers what the email engine does on its own.
Campaigns on autopilot, with owner approval
The operating split should be explicit: evergreen sequences run only after their content, audience, triggers, frequency, suppression, and stop conditions are approved. One-off campaigns receive separate approval. Material edits, new use cases, or new data sources trigger another review.
A list built from real customers, not bought names
Do not buy lists. Build a documented permission-based audience through clear website or in-store sign-ups and other lawful sources. An order, contact form, or missed call does not automatically authorize unrelated marketing; record the source, disclosure, timestamp, status, and suppression history.
Gigi's New York Style Pizza uses a direct website order path, and Sea Bright Bagels uses direct ordering plus customer sign-ups. Eligible data can be stored in a client-controlled CRM when the vendor, permissions, and consent status support it. Export and offboarding terms are documented in the service agreement.
The three sequences that do the work
You do not need twelve clever automations. Most local businesses need exactly three, built once and left running. We write all three, wire them to your customer database, and tune them as your list grows. Each one has a single job.
- Welcome series. A new customer joins your list and gets a short run of emails: who you are, what to order or book first, and a reason to come back soon.
- Offers. Scheduled promotions to the full list or a slice of it — specials, events, new products — written to be opened, not deleted.
- Win-backs. When a customer stops showing up, an automated email gives them a reason to return. Reaching a customer you already have is cheaper than buying a new one with ads.
Segmentation: the right message to the right people
A weekly regular and a customer who ordered once in March should not get the same email. Segmentation splits your list by behavior: new customers, regulars, big spenders, people who have gone quiet. Each group gets a message that fits. New sign-ups get the welcome series. Loyal customers get first access to specials. Lapsed customers get win-backs. Fewer, better-targeted emails also protect your sender reputation — blasting everyone with everything is how businesses end up in spam.
Deliverability: the boring part we handle
Writing the email is the easy part. Landing it in the inbox is where most do-it-yourself email dies. We handle the plumbing: SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication so mailbox providers can verify the mail is really from you. A clean, permission-based list, because spam complaints follow you. Easy unsubscribes, because trapping people on a list only hurts delivery. Steady sending instead of giant sporadic blasts. No one can honestly promise inbox placement — what we do is remove every reason for a provider to filter you.
Email and text, working the same list
Email and text messaging are two halves of the same follow-up system. Text is immediate — short offers, missed-call text-backs, same-day promos that get read within minutes. Email carries the weight: menus, photos, longer offers, the story behind the special. Because both run out of the same CRM, they coordinate. A customer who redeemed yesterday's text offer does not get the identical email today. For the other half of the system, see our text message marketing page.
What it costs
Email operations are defined alongside the website, CRM, search, and any approved text workflows. Growth is $1,995 setup plus $399 monthly; Full System is $3,500 setup plus $599 monthly; custom work is scoped separately. The proposal states sender responsibilities, fair-use limits, vendor costs, data rights, suppression, exports, and offboarding.
Questions
Straight answers
The service agreement defines eligible client data, CRM access, exports, retention, deletion, and offboarding. Data may come from configured orders, consented sign-ups, and forms when vendor permissions allow. Third-party platforms have their own contracts and export limits, so those dependencies are documented separately.
ClickMingo can draft, design, and schedule the email work included in the approved scope. Evergreen sequences require approval of their content, audience, triggers, frequency, suppression, and stop conditions; one-off campaigns receive separate approval. Material changes trigger another review.
A win-back email is an automated message sent to a customer who has stopped buying or visiting after a set period of inactivity. It usually includes a direct reason to return, such as an offer or a reminder of what they used to order. Win-backs work because the recipient already knows the business — reaching an existing customer is generally cheaper than acquiring a new one through advertising.
Use clear, documented sign-up flows and other lawful sources. Do not assume an order, contact form, or missed call authorizes unrelated marketing. Store the source, disclosure version, timestamp, status, and suppression history. Purchased lists create consent, quality, complaint, and reputation risks and are outside ClickMingo's operating model.
No one can guarantee inbox placement. SPF, DKIM, DMARC, permission quality, complaints, bounces, unsubscribe handling, content, sending patterns, reputation, and mailbox-provider decisions all matter. ClickMingo can configure and monitor the agreed controls, but legitimate mail may still be filtered.
They serve different purposes and have different consent and delivery constraints. If both are appropriate, the CRM should track channel eligibility, frequency, suppression, and recent sends so the business can reduce duplicate or excessive contact. Neither channel is automatically right for every customer or campaign.
